A Systematic Review of the Deficit Model and Call for Empowerment Towards Informed Publics
Abstract
What do science communication researchers mean when they talk about this model and what criticisms of the model do they have? We conducted a systematic review of the deficit model of science communication. Furthermore, we explored if there is potential in an appraoach that focuses on empowerment, instead of on deficit, if the goal is to inform publics.
